Hundreds gathered on the lawns of King’s House in Kingston earlier today, for the annual presentation of National Honours and Awards. 140 awardees received honours ranging from the Order of Merit and Order of Jamaica, to the Badge of Honour for Gallantry.
The two most notable awardees were probably track superstar Usain Bolt, who received the Order of Jamaica for outstanding performance in the field of athletics at the international level, and young eighth grader Colin Anthony Foster, who received the Badge of Honour For Gallantry, for his courage in saving the life of his bed-ridden Great-Grandmother, when their house was completely destroyed by fire on December 6, 2006.
While champion sprinter Usain Bolt was preparing for his 9.77 100M run at a track meet in the Czech Republic, thieves reportedly broke into his house on Lady Musgrave Avenue in Kingston yesterday morning (June 17), and stole electronics (digital cameras, cellphones and a laptop) worth over J$100,000. The incident reportedly happened sometime between 12 a.m. and 4.am.
The police have since examined the premises, and investigations into the theft are said to be well under way.
Olympic triple gold medalist was reportedly injured (not seriously) in a car accident on the Highway 2000 road here in St. Catherine, Jamaica this afternoon.
He was reportedly traveling with his girlfriend, and both have been taken to hospital. His motor vehicle somehow ended up in a ditch along the highway, but it’s not clear yet how exactly the accident happened.
