High School Principal Shot But Manages To Disarm Robber

A high school principal was shot and injured during a robbery attempt yesterday, but he managed to disarm one of his attackers.

According to reports, the principal was driving along the Palmetto Grove main road in St. Mary at approximately 12:15 p.m., when his vehicle was hit by a white Toyota Tercel motor car. He alighted from his vehicle, and was held up at gunpoint by one of the two occupants of the Tercel. The gunman demanded money, and when the demand was not met, a struggle ensued. The principal was shot during the struggle, however he managed to relieve the robber of his pistol before they escaped.

The gun was later handed over to the police, and the Principal assisted to the hospital. The Highgate Police are investigating.

Gunmen Shoot At Passenger Bus – Three Students Injured

Three students – two girls and a boy – were injured and rushed to hospital on Monday afternoon (April 12), following a brazen gun attack on a public passenger bus which was traveling along Slipe Road in Kingston.

According to reports, the incident occurred at approximately 3 in the afternoon, and appeared to have stemmed from an altercation between men in sections of Half-Way-Tree earlier that day. The gunmen were reportedly waiting on the bus, and as it reached the vicinity of Torrington Bridge, they signalled the bus driver to stop. When the bus driver failed to stop, the men reportedly opened fire at the bus, riddling it with bullets.

The injured students are said to be in stable condition at hospital.

Lawyer Charged With Murder

63 year old Phoebe Lawrence, a lawyer of Mona in St. Andrew, has been charged with the shooting death of 51 year old Errol ‘Poppy’ Buchanan, of no fixed address. The murder reportedly took place on Carnation Way in Mona on May 25 this year.

According to police reports, at about 9:10 a.m. on Monday, May 25, residents heard explosions and summoned the police. Buchanan’s body was found lying on the road with gunshot wounds. Investigations later led to Lawrence’s arrest, and the seizure of his licensed firearm for ballistic testing. He was charged by investigators from the Major Crimes Taskforce and will appear in court on Wednesday, August 5.

11 Year Old Gangster Child?

An 11 year old student of the Holy Rosary Primary School in Kingston, who in April of this year allegedly fired a gun on the school compound, is again being investigated by police, this time in relation to the stabbing of another student at the school last Wednesday (June 17).

According to the police, the boy was involved in an altercation with another 11 year old, and used a broken bottle to stab him in the chest. The injured student was rushed to hospital where he was listed in stable condition, while the accused boy has been removed from the school and taken to a place of safety.

With regard to the investigation of the April shooting incident, the police indicate that it led nowhere, as the gun (which was allegedly hidden), was never found. They are however questioning the rationale of him being allowed back into the school system, but the hands of school officials may have been tied, as unless the child was convicted of a crime, it would be difficult to deprive him of an education.
