RECOMMENDATIONS

Given the above situation, precautionary measures should be taken by everyone in the interest of personal safety and the protection of property. The following recommendations are being made:
• Always be extra vigilant and aware of your surroundings, especially when you are operating in any of the areas named above.
• Avoid travelling around with large sums of cash or any attractive item that you cannot afford to lose.
• Do not withdraw large sums of cash from Banks unless you have made the necessary security arrangements. Recently, many persons have been robbed having collected large sums of cash from banks.
• Never leave attractive items/packages in your car where they can be easily seen; robbers are now breaking/removing windows in order to steal.
• Look out for suspicious persons who may try to get close to you in order to rob or otherwise harm you. Always be very alert and take evasive actions in a timely manner!
• Security guards MUST remain vigilant and pay attention to Access Control Procedures – this is a zero error rate area. Car Park patrols must also be conducted very frequently to guard against the theft of vehicles.

GOOD LUCK!

Advantage General Issues Safety & Security Advisory For Staff

With the recent increase in incidents of crime and violence in the New Kingston area, Advantage General Insurance Company’s Human Resources department recently issued a safety and security advisory for its members of staff. The advisory has been making the rounds via email and we’ve featured it below.

Date: April 8, 2009

We are aware of a significant increase in incidents of crime and violence in the New Kingston area. This hit close to home yesterday, when one of our colleagues was kidnapped at gun point on Trafalgar road, on his way from lunch. He was subsequently robbed of all valuables and left in the Red Hills area unhurt. The incident was unfortunate and so we are encouraging everyone to be vigilant in ensuring their personal safety and security.

We therefore offer the following safety tips:

  1. Always be aware of the possibility that you may be accosted by day or night while on the road
  2. Be alert when travelling from the Office to New Kingston. Look out for suspicious looking vehicles such as white Toyota Corollas [Kingfish vehicle] which may be parked along the roadside or driving by.
  3. Do not walk alone, always walk in a group or take vehicular transportation.
  4. Never take shortcuts through alleys, parks or open lots. Stick to major roadways.
  5. If you are walking and suspect you are being followed by a car, turn around and walk in the opposite direction.
  6. If you suspect you are being followed by a person, call the police, cross the street and move quickly to an area where there are other people.
  7. If walking and someone asks for direction, remain several feet away from the car. Far enough to be safe from a hand that might grab you or your purse/bag.
  8. If possible, walk closely behind a group of people who look trustworthy.
  9. If someone is walking near you and is making you feel uncomfortable look at a window and wave. Pretend that someone is watching you.
  10. Do not walk with large amount of cash or other valuables.
  11. Always carry handbag, purse or wallet close to your body.

Please give careful consideration to the aforementioned tips and we encourage you to report any incidents or near missies you may experience to us.
