Earl Fray, father of Jamaican hijacker Stephen Fray, and whose gun was used in the process of his son’s hijacking of CanJet Flight 918, will reportedly be charged by the police with ‘negligence caused in the theft or loss of a firearm’. Stephen Fray reportedly stole his father’s gun and used it during the hijacking.
At least one shot was reportedly fired from the gun (a .38 revolver) on the aircraft during the hijacking, and it is expected that the police will recommend that Earl Fray’s firearm licence be revoked.
Prime Minister Bruce Golding yesterday ordered an investigation into security breaches which led to the hijacking of a CanJet charter flight destined for Halifax, Canada by 21-year-old Stephen Fray. It was not immediately clear up to last night who would bear responsibility for the incident which has raised serious concerns about the quality of security at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay.

Stephen Fray, the 21-year-old Jamaican man who held passengers on a chartered CanJet airline hostage yesterday, has been described by some as a well-mannered, extremely sociable man from a good family. He is the son of Earl and Dawn Fray, business entreprenuers, and was pursuing studies at the Montego Bay Community College in St. James, with the hope of attending university later this year. He previously attended Mount Alvernia Preparatory School and the prestigious Cornwall College, an all-boys high school located in Montego Bay.
