A 16 year old youth was arrested last night in McCooks Pen, Spanish Town, St. Catherine, after he was searched and a 9mm pistol found in his possession. His identity is being withheld pending further investigations.
According to the police, at approximately 11:45 p.m., officers on patrol saw the teen acting suspiciously and accosted him. He was searched, and a Ruger 9mm pistol – serial number 31175078 – with a magazine containing six 9mm cartridges was taken from his waistband.
The Spanish Town CIB are investigating.
A student of the Holmwood Technical High School in Manchester is dead, and his teenage colleague in police custody, after he was shot and killed with an illegal gun on Thursday (March 4). According to reports, at about 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, both boys were in a section of Spaldings, when explosions were heard, and the teenager later found dead. The accused teenager was held by the police shortly after the incident and the gun was also seized.
It is believed that he was accidentally shot while they were exploring the gun, but the accused teenager is currently being held in police custody on suspicion of murder.
A pastor from a church in Spanish Town, recently had to pay out more than J$100,000 to gang members in the area, after a gun was found hidden at his church yard, and he handed it over to the police.
According to reports, the gun was hidden there by the thugs, but was found when the church yard was being cleaned up. The pastor called the Spanish Town police and the gun was handed over to them, but the gun’s owners were reportedly unamused about the situation and demanded the money as recourse for the loss of the gun. The money was reportedly paid to the gang members.
A female trainee teacher – who reportedly attends a prominent teachers’ college in Western Jamaica – and her boyfriend, are among five persons who were arrested and jointly charged yesterday with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
The trainee teacher has been identified as 18 year old Kadian Hylton of Bottom Cambridge in St. James. Her boyfriend was identified as 29 year old Joshua ‘Joshie’ Anderson of Paradise, Norwood, St. James.
According to police reports, at approximately 3 a.m. yesterday morning, a white Toyota Corolla with one female and four female passengers was stopped and searched by the police along the Cambridge main road. A Sig Sauer 9mm pistol was reportedly taken from the waistband of the woman. According to the police, the group were responsible for firing a barrage of shots earlier that night at a dance in Seaford, Westmoreland.
Yesterday’s seizure comes just days after a 13 year old St. James school girl was held with a gun in her school bag.
